About the Project
During the first quarter of my MSc in Urbanism at TU Delft, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of urban design by conducting comprehensive research, evaluating diverse sources, and critically analyzing my work within a strong theoretical framework. Throughout the project, I used drawings and various representational techniques to communicate both analytical and projective insights about the future of the Low Lands, addressing long-term developments as well as short-term interventions. My case study focused on the upcoming challenges facing the city of Maastricht in The Netherlands.
Status Quo
Idea and Strategy
What if Maastricht only uses the existing wastescapes in the future to develop a strategy for urban regeneration throughout the city, enabling a safe built environment in the and a reclaiming of natural habitats?Land Use. New possibilities?
The following chart shows the land use of the built environment in 2017. Industrial, commercial and office areas account for 18% of Maastricht‘s built environment. In addition, other categories such as semi-built-up areas, which are designated for the built environment but not built-up, still make up a large part of the existing land resources. Furthermore, dumping sites and mining areas may also play an important role in the future. (Data: Statistics Netherlands)
